Enhancing Thermally Modified Wood Stability against Discoloration

نویسندگان

چکیده

Thermal modification of wood has gained its niche in the production materials that are mainly used for outdoor applications, where stability aesthetic appearances is very important. In present research, spectral sensitivity to discoloration thermally modified (TM) aspen was assessed and, based on these results, possibility delay due weathering by non-film forming coating containing transparent iron oxides formulation studied. The effect including organic light stabilizers (UVA and HALS) coatings as well pretreatment with lignin stabilizer (HALS) evaluated. Artificial testing efficiency different formulations TM discoloration. For color measurements assessment, CIELAB model used. Significant differences between unmodified observed implying strategies could be effective their photostabilization. From studied concepts, inclusion red oxide into base found most approach enhancing photostability against weathering.

Colour Stability of Thermally Modified Wood during Short-Term Photodegradation

Dry thermal treatments of wood samples were carried out at 160 and 200 °C. After each treatment, the samples were irradiated using a strong UV emitter mercury lamp, and the colour change was then evaluated. For control, untreated samples were also irradiated using the same mercury lamp. Results showed that the extractive content of the wood played an important role in the colour change not only...

Characterization of Emissions from Thermally Modified Wood and Their Reduction by Chemical Treatment

Thermal treatment is a suitable method for improving the quality of wood types like spruce, beech, or poplar, and thus to open up new fields of application that used to be limited to tropical woods or woods treated with timber preservatives. These thermally treated woods are characterized by a typical odor caused by degradation products of miscellaneous wood components. The characterization and...

Influence of Post-extraction on Photostability of Thermally Modified Scots Pine Wood during Artificial Weathering

The photo-stabilizing effect of post-extraction was evaluated for thermally modified wood. Extracted and non-extracted thermally modified Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) samples were exposed in a xenon weather-ometer for 1008 h, and the surface color and chemical changes were characterized using a chroma meter, attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), an...

Influence of Heat Transferring Media on Durability of Thermally Modified Wood

Studies on the durability and dimensional stability of a series of hardwoods and softwoods after thermal modification in vegetable oils and in steam atmospheres have been performed. Mass loss after exposure to Coniophora puteana (BAM Ebw.15) for 16 weeks was very low for European birch, European aspen, Norway spruce, and Scots pine thermally modified in a linseed oil product with preservative (...

Effect of Artificial Weathering on the Properties of Industrial-Scale Thermally Modified Wood

Thermally modified wood is widely used in cladding, decking, and other construction projects that are meant for outdoor exposure. The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in the color, microstructure, and chemical composition of heat-treated, Larix spp. wood that was exposed to artificial weathering. In this study, accelerated weathering tests (UV and moisture) were conducted over a...
